Community-acquired pneumonia (or CAP) is a significant cause of hospitalisation and illness world-wide. Respiratory tract infections are the leading cause of deaths from infectious disease globally, and are the leading cause of deaths in developing nations. REMAP-CAP uses a novel and innovative adaptive trial design to evaluate a number of treatment options simultaneously and efficiently. This design is able to adapt in the event of pandemics, and increases the likelihood that patients will receive the treatment that is most likely to be effective for them.
